Masshirona Mono wa Yogoshitaku Naru Impression

Right, so Keyakizaka46 first album Masshirona Mono wa Yogoshitaku Naru has officially been released, and i have already listen to all of the songs properly, and now i'm going to give my impression on every song in the album. so here are my impression on all 16 of the new song

-Gentsuyoubi no Asa, Skirt wo Kirareta (Kanji Keyakizaka)
The main song for the album, and a pretty solid one i have to say. a prequel to Silent Majority, its a gritty and deep song about bullying, a subject that Keyakizaka have touch before, but this time its a lot better. the story revolves around the girls before they were together, before Silent Majority, so that's why they wore different outfit when performing it. the lyrics is mainly about school bullying, which i can relate to a lot, its very emotional, and very deep. the lyric story can also be connected to the story in Silent Majority, the reason why they (Keyakizaka46) rebel against the society (in Silent Majority) is because they were bullied and outcast by the society (in Getsuyoubi). actually there is some relation between all of their single that i found but that's for another time. the song itself has a very dark feel to it, it has some RnB feel to it, and that moment where Techi's sings "あんたは私の何を知る?" sounds very clear and unfiltered, which makes it even more real and intense.

-Kimi wo Mou Sagasanai (Kanji Keyakizaka)

one of the weaker song of the album, it just doesn't have anything special to offer like some of the other song. its not by any means a bad song, its actually a very solid song, it has a nice flow and a very catchy chorus, to me its actually better than most of the song that the 48 Group is putting out recently, but since this album is so packed with great songs, this song is just feel a bit generic.

-Tokyo Tower wa Doko Kara Mieru? (Kanji Keyakizaka)

right, this song is a bit weird, this is an EDM style song, which is fine, but what's different about this song is that the verse part and the chorus is completely different from each other, different tempo, different key, you could even say the style is different. i never heard anything like this ever, and i think its great.

-Abunakkashii Keikaku (Kanji Keyakizaka)

what can i say about this song? well it has a rock and roll feel in the beginning, then they suddenly started to sing really fast, then suddenly really slow, finally they go to this very catchy chorus, its really messy. i don't know if you can say this is good, but its certainly different, and i have to say, i love it.

-Koko ni Nai Ashiato (Aozora to MARRY)

first of the unit song, is this beautifully catchy song by Aozora to MARRY, and for those of you who don't know, MARRY stands for Manaka (Shida Manaka), Akane (Moriya Akane), Risa (Watanabe Risa), Rika (Watanabe Rika), and Yuuka (Sugai Yuuka). its their third song i believe, and its different from what they have in the past. its a more calm and compose song, and its incredibly catchy. the only problem is probably with the vocal, its a bit weak, its better than their previous song, but its still sounds a little bit weak.

-Chinmoku Shita Koibito yo (Lima Cantik)

first if all before we get to the song, i want to talk about the unit's name, now for those of you who don't know, Lima Cantik means five Beauties in Indonesian (Lima = Five; Cantik = Beautiful/beauty), and you might think that it is a great name, but here in Indonesia its actually sounds so lame (to me at least) and i don't think any group in Indonesia would want to put the word Cantik in their name, because its sounded lame and a bit narcissistic. but the song is a good one, i like the piano and acoustic guitar combination in the song, the chorus is nice, and its sounded like an actual idol song. the vocal of the five Hiragana girls is very good, better than MARRY's vocal to be honest. the best one is probably Saito Kyoko's voice, its that deep, low voice, makes her stand out from the other.

-Neko no Namae (Sugai Yuuka, Moriya Akane, Kato Shiho, Sasaki Kumi)

another very solid song, this time from a unit consisted of both Kanji and Hiragana members, its nice, very catchy, very cool, and different. the intro reminds me of the song Levels by Avicii, probably because of the chord progression. i also like how they go straight to the verse after the first chorus. very good.

-Eien no Hakusen (Hiragana Keyakizka)

i guess we can say that Hiragana is in charge of the idol side of Keyakizaka, this song is very good. another song that an idol might sing, its soft, its cute, and its catchy. it has a very nice bass line, and guitar parts, but my favorite is probably the chorus part, i love those part where they drop it down half a note at the time, its subtle but gets me every time.

-Ballet to Shounen (156)

the song by the unit that consist of members that has an average height of 156cm, hence the name. this song sounds like a Beatle song, or probably a more accurate way of saying it is that this song sounds like a song that The Beatles would make and sing. it has that same psychedelic feel to a lot of the Beatles record. the arrangement of the song also feels like something that the Beatles might make, in the verse where they start with just one instrument and then build up from there, also where they go high after the second chorus to build up tension before they drop it down for the slow final chorus. to me this is one of the high point of the album.

-AM1:27 (Hirate Yurina, Kobayashi Yui, Suzumoto Miyu)

from a Beatles song to an EDM dance track, wow this album has everything. honestly i don't like this song very much, its a little messy and all over the place, the effect on the vocal is too much in my opinion. but since this is a dance track for a dance unit, i guess its fine, you'll get used to it after a few repeat.

-100nen Matteba (Nagahama Neru)

Neru's second solo song, and its a step up from the first one. first of all, her vocal is better, much more refine from Mata Atte Kudasai. the song itself, it sounded very retro, a good mix of pop and a little bit of jazz, the chorus is catchy as hell, and the male vocal harmony is a nice touch as well. overall, very solid.

-Natsu no Hana wa Himawari Dake Ja Nai (Imaizumi Yui)

now we started to go to the really really good stuff, Imaizumi Yui's first solo song, and its brilliant, and remember, she's been gone for a couple of months now, so hearing this song must be great for her fans. at first, this song sounds like a Chicago song, specifically this one

it has that same powerful ballad feel to it, Zuumin's vocal is just something else. this is a very beautiful song by a beautiful member with a beautiful voice.

-Shoujo ni wa Modorenai (Goninbayashi)

at first listen, this song sounds awfully similar to the song Virtual Insanity by Jamiroquai

and after listening to both song you can't deny the similarity, both has the same Jazzy RnB feel to it, both has a very catchy bass line, even the arrangement is somewhat similar, and honestly if they were going to make an MV for Shoujo ni wa Modorenai, i can imagine they making something similar to Virtual Insanity. i love this song, one of my favorite on the entire album, i don't think they were ripping off Virtual Insanity, i think they just taking inspiration from it, its sounded different from the other song, and that what's makes it sooooo goooood......

-1gyou Dake no Air Mail (Yuichanzu)

this unit just never stop blowing my mind with their amazing song. another new style for Yuichanzu, this time its a country ballad, and they pulled it of perfectly. the arrangement with the piano and guitar is simply beautiful, the vocal is brilliant as usual, its perfect. its a very good road trip song, its like those scene in the movie where the main character (preferably female)is in a car on the highway looking out the side window and this song is playing in the background, that's the first image that comes to my mind from this song. this is a very good song for a very long drive. and one more thing, at around 3 and a half minutes long, its one of the shorter song in the album, but it feels longer than it actually is, probably because of the slow tempo and calming nature of it, but mostly its because this is just a very very good song. to me, its the best song of the album, and by a big margin. is it better than Bob Dylan wa Kaesanai, which is Keyakizaka46 best song right now?? uummm........ close, but i think Bob Dylan just has the edge a little bit from 1gyou Dake no Air Mail, its a very close call, you can even say its a draw between the two songs.

-Jibun no Kitsugi  (Hirate Yurina)

why it has to be so dark?? i'm not complaining but why it has to be so dark? at first listen i imagine this song being played in a fancy restaurant or something like that, where everyone wears a fancy suits and dresses, you know gangster movies. but anyway, its a great ballad song, it has that blues feel which makes it somewhat classy, and the vocal is not bad as well. a great song by the dark idol herself.

-Taiyou wa Miageru Hito wo Erabanai (Kanji + Hiragana Keyakizaka)

there is a reason why i put this song last, out of all the other song, this to me is the best summer song of them all, they should have made this the main song of the album. its a perfect summer festival EDM tune, the kind of song where you can have fun with everyone. i'm hoping that in concert they make this song the last song before the encore or the first song of the encore. i can see all of the audience holding up and swinging their towel and lightstick while the members (all 32 of them) is jumping onstage with one hand in the air (preferably holding a towel as well) and a great big smile in their face. its not a song where you focus on the dance or the choreography, this is a song where the artist (Keyakizaka46) just having fun with their fans and have a good time. its not by any means a perfect song, but that's what makes this song brilliant.

that's my short impression about all of the song from Keyakizaka46 first album "Masshirona Mono wa Yogoshitaku Naru", and if i have to rank all of the song from the best to the "worst" it would probably looks like this.

1. 1gyou Dake no Air Mail (Yuichanzu)
2. Shoujo ni wa Modorenai (Goninbayashi)
2. Natsu no Hana wa Himawari Dake Ja Nai (Imaizumi Yui)
4. 100nen Matteba (Nagahama Neru)
4. Ballet to Shounen (156)
4. Gentsuyoubi no Asa, Skirt wo Kirareta (Kanji Keyakizaka)
7. Taiyou wa Miageru Hito wo Erabanai (Kanji + Hiragana Keyakizaka)
8. Eien no Hakusen (Hiragana Keyakizka)
9. Chinmoku Shita Koibito yo (Lima Cantik)
10. Koko ni Nai Ashiato (Aozora to MARRY)
11. Abunakkashii Keikaku (Kanji Keyakizaka)
12. Neko no Namae (Sugai Yuuka, Moriya Akane, Kato Shiho, Sasaki Kumi)
13. Jibun no Kitsugi  (Hirate Yurina)

15. AM1:27 (Hirate Yurina, Kobayashi Yui, Suzumoto Miyu)
16. Kimi wo Mou Sagasanai (Kanji Keyakizaka)

overall i think this is a very very good album, probably one one of the best album i've heard in recent time out of any artist, its certainly the best Idol album i've heard in recent time maybe even ever. all the different styles of song in this album and the fact that all of the song were great songs is really the best thing about this album, and i haven't even talk about the bonuses that comes with the song, the MV's and Bonus Video and all that kind of stuff. by the way i will make a post talking about the MV for Getsuyoubi no Asa, Skirt wo Kirareta, as soon as i understand all of the little detail, all of the little story, and after i can make a narrative that connect's the Getsuyoubi lyrics and MV with the lyrics and MV from Silent Majority. but until then
