#Sukinanda Impression

Ok, so the Senbatsu Sousenkyo is done and now the long awaited Sousenkyo single has finally been released, and i have already listen and watch all of the MV and here are my impression on those songs and MVs. first if all, i just want to say that i don't like this single very much, not because of the songs are bad or anything, but because that this is the single with the fewest number of AKB48 members in the main senbatsu with only 4 members, 6 if you count Sasshi and Kitarie who started out in AKB, that's less than 40% (37.5% to be precise) of the whole senbatsu, the other 60% (62.5%) are all sister group members, and for an AKB48 single its not a good number, even Yuuhi wo Miteiruka has more AKB member in the senbatsu and that only has 10 people in the whole formation. but anyway, enough of the nonsense lets get on to the songs.

Give Up wa Shinai (Tofu Wrestling Senbatsu?)
first we have this song which is basically Shoot Sign 2.0, it has a similar style to Shoot Sign but its much more refine and much more thought out than Shoot Sign. i don't like the "I have a dream" bit at the end, i don't know its just doesn't sounds right. the MV is also very similar to Shoot Sign only that it has less members and less pink, nothing really special, its just a build up for the main event of the WIP Climax event between Cherry Miyawaki and Long Speech Yokoyama vs Hollywood JURINA and Dotonbori Shiroma, which is by the way is a very good show, the wrestling was better than i expected, especially that one match where Shimada and Kaotan wrestling against real pro wrestler, and the whole show really feels like an actual wrestling PPV.
Private Summer (Showroom Senbatsu)
a typical idol style pop song, its very catchy, but its just feel a bit generic, its nothing special. its not bad, but its not brilliant as well. the MV is actually rather good, it look fresh and summery, with a lot of references from the Showroom streaming site like the stars and darumas and finally a freaking Tokyo Tower, i like it, i like the concept, its creative. honestly, i don't know most of the girl in the senbatsu and i also don't watch showroom very often, but this is still very good.
Tsuki no Kamen (Upcoming Girls)
the first of the song from the actual SSK unit, a lot of people say that this song sounds like Nogizaka's Influencer, and i don't blame them, at first listen it does sounds like a slowed down version of Influencer, but listening more to it, it actually sounds a bit different, yes it has the same flamenco/spanish style, but this is a slower and less intense style, which is rare for AKB to have a song that is less intense than Nogizaka, but its still a good song. for the MV, well you can clearly see that this is an Upcoming Girls MV, there's not a lot going on, its simple and mostly focus on the dance part, not a lot of solo shot so its hard to notice all of the members, seriously i only notice the center Ota Nao and Tani Marika in this MV, while the rest is just in the background. but the addition of the live band is not a bad touch though.
Jibuntachi no Koi ni Kagitte (Future Girls)
well i tell you one thing, this song is very Rikopi, the style and the flow suits the center Sakaguchi Riko perfectly, a very mature song. and as expected from an AKB song, it relies heavily on drums and guitars, a very good song. the MV is also quite good, i like the red and black color scheme, again looks very mature and elegant. the members all looks amazing in those dress, but again, just like the Upcoming Girls MV, there's not a lot going on.
Tomadotte Tamaratte (Next Girls)
this song is really good, i really like the flow of this song, especially the chorus part, it sounds just right. and i also like the part where they tease that the song is over but then it came back for the final chorus with a higher key. the MV is..... well i like the concept, its a sci-fi style MV, it started out black and white but then the color is gradually coming back as the barcode is scan. and also the barcode theme kinda reminds me to the movie "In Time", where all the people has like a timer on their arm to show how long will they live and also use as a currency, watch it, its not a bad movie

Darashinai Aishikata (Undergirls)
this is my favorite song from the single, that piano is just amazing, and it has a somewhat retro feel to it, which i very much love, i also like the guitar solo part, but my favorite is actually something very subtle, its the small chord progression after every part, like after the intro and also the chorus, the part where they drop it half a chord at a time with a drum hit on every one, its very subtle but those kind of small thing that made a song great. and about the rapping part, well it sounds more like a monologue than rapping, i think what they trying to do here is to copy what Keyakizaka46 do in Sekai ni wa Ai Shikanai, and well it doesn't work here, sounds kinda awkward. the MV is visually impressive, i like the dark tone of it, and that hanging part, its haunting and amazing at the same time.
#Sukinanda (Senbatsu)
i really want to like this song, honestly i really do, its a very good song, but i just can't like it, and not just because there is barely any AKB member in the line up. i don't like this song because it just feels like what they do to make this song is just to take bits from their old stuff and stick them together, i mean, i hear bits from First Rabbit in there, bits from Nogi's Girls Rule and Offshore Girl is also present, and the whole song has the exact same flow as Ponytail to Shushu, seriously from the piano intro to the ending its the same flow as Ponytail. and that's why i don't like it, its a good song because it uses bits from good songs. and for the MV, well its very good, its been a while since AKB made something like this. visually its very good, it was shot in Okinawa so the scenery is amazing, the members also looks very good, and i'm glad that they don't do the beachside swimsuit dance scene like in Ponytail, because personally i am not a fan of those kinda shots, but at least we can still see the NMB girls in their bikini's, which is always a nice sight. the only thing that bothers me is that in the dance scene on the top of the mountain and there is this beautiful view of okinawa, but you can just see in the corner there is something like a nuclear power plant or a waste disposal plant which kinda spoils the shot a bit, its a small detail i know but small detail is what makes the different between something good and bad.

Also i want to point out one thing that i find, in this single we can clearly see the different treatment that every unit gets, we can clearly see that the further down we go the less elaborate the MV becomes. like, the Senbatsu gets all the good stuff, then the Undergirls is still somewhat elaborate, but with the Next, Future and Upcoming girls we can clearly see that the set is getting smaller and simpler, and the screen time for the members is getting shorter and shorter. this shows that in the SSK, where you rank does matter.

overall this is a fine single from AKB48, do i like it? maybe, will i buy it? probably not. the songs are not bad, the MV quality have improved from previous single, but there is still something lacking from this generation of AKB48, and that's why right now AKB48 is still behind the Sakamichi Series. and speaking of them i think i'm going to write something about why the Sakamichi Series is better that the AKB48G right now. but until then
