Nogizaka46 - Yoake Made Tsuyogaranakutemo Ii Impression

Hello and welcome to another post. its been a while but don't worry, i'm still around. this time i'm going to talk about my impression on Nogizaka46 24th single, 'Yoake Made Tsuyogaranakutemo Ii'. released on the 4th of September 2019 (which is also the 3rd anniversary of the 3rd gen), its the first time that the 4th generation been selected for the Senbatsu, and what a shocker, its the center position. also i find it interesting that when the 2nd gen first enter senbatsu it was only 1 member, then the 3rd gen its 2 member, now the 4th gen its 3 member. so i guess when the 5th gen start coming in, the entire front row will be full of them. and oh, the 3 4th gen in question are Endo Sakura  (center), Kaki Haruka, and Tsutsui  Ayame. So, that's the intro done, let's get to the songs

Yoake Made Tsuyogaranakutemo Ii (Senbatsu)

First, the title track of the single, Yoake Made Tsuyogaranakutemo Ii. At first i thought, is this really a summer single? because it certainly doesn't sounded like one. but it still a pretty good song all things consider, i enjoy the vocals, enjoy the guitar, and the strings. i think the song fits Endo as a center, overall, good song.

The Music Video, honestly i have seen better MV, this is not by any mean a great music video, but its not bad either. it uses what looks like a 4:3 aspect ratio, although what it actually is, is just a normal 16:9 video but with black bars on the side. the cinematography is pretty good, it has some good shot with good aesthetic, and great uses of colors and lighting. but, this music video give me more question than answer. first, what exactly is the purpose of having a 4:3 aspect ratio? what does the director want to tell by using 4:3 instead of a normal 16:9. is it part of the story? part of the aesthetic? because in a lot of shots, especially the wide one, it cuts quite a lot of the screen, and some members are not on the screen. i don't hate the 4:3 aspect ratio, it just that in this case, it doesn't make sense to use it.

Tokidoki Omoidashite Kudasai (Sakurai Reika)

Next we have Sakurai Reika's graduation solo song, and its brilliant. the vocal fits Reika's voice perfectly, it has a great melody to it, and it has great lyrics. a fitting sendoff to our great captain. the chorus in particular, it sounded really good in my ears.

The Music Video, i really like it. it shows the journey of Reika from the beginning of the group to her graduation. and the way they show it is really cool as well, having each room she visit to have the costume and memories of a certain year, like in one room there's the costume for Guruguru Curtain, Oide Shampoo, Hashire! bicycle and Seifuku no Mannequin representing 2012. then there's costume for Kidzuitara Kataomoi, Natsu no Free & Easy, and Nandome no Aozora Ka? for 2014, and so on. the footage they show (on an old SONY TV) for each room also came from the same year, like the bungee jump in 2013, Reika's return after a break in 2016, Tokyo Dome in 2017, and Wakatsuki's graduation in 2018. really cool detail and concept. i also really like their usage of mirrors in this MV, it gives it a very cool and creative shots, i mean
i've seen this technique a million times, i've even learn how to do it, but it always gets me every time, its soo good, and i love it.

Romendensha no Machi (Saito Asuka, Hori Miona, Yamashita Mizuki)

I wish the Yuichanzu was still around, because this song would have been perfect for them. a folk song that has a lot of focus on the acoustic guitar and vocal. it would have been perfect for Imaizumi Yui and Kobayashi Yui. but instead we got Asuka, Miona and Mizuki, and i'm not disappointed. arguably the 3 aces of 3 generation, Asuka for the 1st gen, Miona for the 2nd gen and Mizuki for the 3rd gen, i think the 3 of them did a good job on this unit song.

The music video, i think its the best one of the single. honestly, this is what i'm hoping the main song MV would look like, a narrative driven, short movie style MV. and what a story it is, its very deep and very touching to the point that it can make you cry. the story is about 4 best friends, Asuka, Miona, Mizuki, and a character played by Takase Mana (not that one). and the reason why they became friends during school is because of Takase Mana (i think the character name is Hikari). after school they decided to go they're separate way. one day, they decided to get together and visit Takase Mana at their old school, but it shows at the end of the story that what Asuka, Miona and Mizuki actually doing is that they're visiting the grave of Takase Mana, because she had passed away sometime when they were not together. which shows that even after death, Takase Mana's character is still the reason why Asuka, Miona and Mizuki is together. now there is a theory about what the story actually means, but i'm not going to talk about it here, i'm just going to tell you the story the director of the video is trying to tell. and the way this MV tell this story is pretty good. so what they do is that they use 3 different style to show 3 different part/side/section of the story.

the first one is the present day, fairly cool tone, not too much or too little contrast, not too bright, its just right.
next there's the dream section, where we can see the "ghost" of Takase Mana, it doesn't clearly show in the picture, but its much brighter and lower contrast, like how a dream section usually looks like
finally there is the past, very high contrast, the colors are very sharp, looks like it was shot using an older camera.
really good MV, i like it a lot.

Do My Best ~ Jaa Imi wa Nai~ (Under Member)

At first, i didn't really like this song, it feel messy at some area, like the rapping then suddenly jump into a choir. but the more i listen to it, the more it made sense, and the more i like it. its certainly very catchy and actually has a nice melody.

The MV meanwhile, is a big disappointment. i really didn't like this MV. it just looks and feel very generic, there's not a lot happening, not a lot of thing that is a point of interest. its just the under members dancing in the rain on a completely white background. that, and the fact that the camera movement were confusing at times, doesn't really create the best Music Video. i can't talk a lot about this MV simply because there's not a lot of things in it

Toshoshitsu no Kimi e (Nogizaka46 4th Generation)

I think the 4th gen has finally got their own style with this song. its upbeat but calming at the same time, it doesn't overwhelm you, its a great song to listen over and over again. the center is Kakehashi Sayaka, people said that she should be the one in the senbatsu instead of Kaki, but i think having her as the 4th gen center is the right choice. Saa-chan's bright smile and personality fits the song very well.

The MV, is like all new gen MV, very cute and very refreshing. its centers around Kanagawa Saya that doesn't want to wear her glasses in class (although looking at her glasses i can understand why, the glasses is damn ugly), and the others trying to make her feel comfortable to wear glasses in class. its really cute, it shows the bright personality of the 4th gen members, i like it. it also have some reference to the previous single bonus PV and the members personality. in the eye test scene we can see, Seimiya Rei wearing a boxing glove, which is what she wear in her PV in Sing Out, Hayakawa Seira using a sticky note, her PV was about a sticky note CM, and Yakubo Mio using a Nogi penlight, because she's a Nogi Wota. it seems like in every Nogi generation (after the 1st gen) there's at least 1 member who is a diehard Nogi fan, there's Karin in the 2nd gen, Kubo and Mukai in the 3rd gen, and now Yakubo in the 4th gen.

Boku no Koto Shitteru? (23rd single senbatsu members)

next we have the OST of Nogizaka46 2nd Documentary film. i really like it, you just want to sing along and play along when listening to this song, at least i do. very nice and catchy melody, not too complex that you can actually learn the song in a pretty short amount of time with the guitar. and i really like that kind of song.
no MV unfortunately, but then again, it is the soundtrack of the documentary, so technically it has an MV, and its 90 minutes long. but i have to wait until they release the DVD to watch it.

Boku no Omoikomi (Senbatsu)

Finally, we have the official song for the High School Quiz show. to be honest, i haven't manage to listen to the high quality release version of the song, i only listen to the radio rip. but even on the radio rip, the song sounded really good, i really like the chorus, the flow is really nice. i think its a great song if not the best in the single.

one thing that i found and i want to talk about about this single is that, i really like how this single as a whole feels like it has a concept.

if you look at all of the cover art, the songs and the MVs, they all have a very similar tone, similar feel, similar concept. they all have that cool and calming tone and feel, they all also have that old vintage concept to them, like the 4:3 aspect ratio, old film camera, old TV. it feels like all of the song, MV and cover art were made following the same baseline and concept, like it was specifically made for this single, even though it was made by different directors, and photographer. i'm not saying that it is the case for this single, but i can appreciate that it turn out like it did.

that's all i have to say about Nogizaka46 24th single, Yoake Made Tsuyogaranakutemo Ii, remember it is only MY opinion, if you have a different opinion than me then you can say that in the comment. final ranking for the song and MV
